The election of a new general secretariat of AMAN NetworkMohammed Safa the secretary general AMAN Network General Secretariat Tehran 04/09/2007 AMAN Network for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Violence & Torture in the Middle East & North Africa, that includes rehabilitation centers for victims of violence and torture in the Middle East and North Africa, had its 11th meeting in Tehran from September 1 until September 3, 2007, hosted by Organization for Defending Victims of Violence - Iran. After the opening of the conference and the submission of the centers' reports, a closed meeting was held to elect a new secretariat for the network. By acclamation, the Secretary-General of the Khiam Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Torture (Lebanon) won as secretary-general of the network, as well as two secretary-general assistants: Mr. Yadollah Mohammadi from the Organization for Defending Victims of Violence (Iran) and Dr. Omar Jabiha Director of the Support And Orientation Centre for Victims of Torture (Morocco). The new Secretary-General of the network Mohammed Safa announced after the elections that there would be a reactivation for the role of the network and an increase for the capacity of the centers to have an effective and strong network in the most flammable areas of the world. Mr. Safa said that there would be an effective work to develop the struggle against torture and provide assistance and support for victims of violence and torture and their families. Mohammed Safa called for the governments to adhere to international conventions on human rights and the prohibition of torture and monitor prisons and put an end to the phenomenon of political arrests and the release of all prisoners of opinion and conscience. He also stressed the independence of the network and enhances its relationship with the IRCT, its development and openness to the Arab and international organizations involved in combating violence and torture. Mr. Safa thanked the ODVV for organizing the meeting in Tehran and thanked the IRCT's support and care for AMAN Network for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Violence & Torture in the Middle East & North Africa.
